1. About this policy
This Cookie Policy explains how securitycity.co.za uses cookies and similar technologies, what they do and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
Cookies that identify you, directly or indirectly, are personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. Where we use those cookies we do so on the basis set out below.
2. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit it. Cookies allow a website to remember your actions and preferences over time, and to understand how the site is being used.
We also refer here to similar technologies such as local storage, pixels and tags, which work in comparable ways.
Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay on your device until they expire or you delete them. First party cookies are set by us. Third party cookies are set by another organisation whose service we use.
3. The cookies we use
3.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the website to work. They keep your quote basket contents in place as you browse, maintain your session, balance server load and protect our forms against abuse. The website cannot function properly without them, so they are not subject to consent.
| Purpose | Type | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| Quote basket contents | First party | Session or up to 30 days |
| Session management | First party | Session |
| Form security and spam protection | First party or third party | Session |
| Recording your cookie preferences (held in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie) | First party | Until you change or clear them |
3.2 Analytics and performance cookies
These help us understand how visitors find and use the website, which products and categories are viewed most, and where pages are not working well. We use this to improve the site and our range.
| Provider | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics 4 | Aggregated visitor statistics | Up to 14 months |
We set these cookies on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the website. We give you notice of them before they are used, and you can switch them off at any time from the Cookie preferences link in the website footer.
3.3 Functional cookies
These remember choices you make, such as a preferred category view or a dismissed notice, so that you do not have to set them again.
3.4 Marketing and advertising cookies
We are not running advertising cookies on the website at present. The Marketing category in Cookie preferences exists so that this can be controlled if we introduce advertising measurement in future, and it can be switched off at any time from the Cookie preferences link in the website footer.
4. Third party cookies
Some pages may embed content from third parties, such as video players, maps or social media. Those providers may set their own cookies, which we do not control. Please refer to their own privacy and cookie notices.
5. Your choices
Cookie notice. When you first visit the website a notice appears explaining that we use cookies. You can open Cookie preferences from the notice itself or from the Cookie preferences link in the website footer on any page. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be switched off. Analytics and Marketing can each be switched off individually, or together using Reject non-essential.
Browser settings. Most browsers let you view, block and delete cookies through their settings menu. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the website, including the quote basket, may not work.
- Google Chrome: Settings, Privacy and security, Third party cookies
- Microsoft Edge: Settings, Cookies and site permissions
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings, Privacy and Security
- Safari: Preferences, Privacy
Do Not Track. Browsers may send a Do Not Track signal. There is no agreed standard for how websites should respond to it, and we do not currently respond to it.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when we add or remove a technology. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
